I finally decided to take the plunge and do my first wedding day edit and it went down brilliantly.

A last minute booking came in from Barnsley couple, Hayley and Craig, for their wedding at Wombwell Church and Ardsley House.

After meeting them both and some of their family and friends at the rehearsal I thought this would be a great wedding and a great couple to do this for, and it certainly was.

The day after rehearsal I went to Ardsley House to see the wedding coordinator, Julie who let me use the basement, which, turned out to be perfect for keeping the wedding day edit a surprise as I’d decided to do.  I brought my editing system and my projector, screen and speakers the next day, bumped into Hayley and craig in the doorway and was completely flummoxed.  Fortunately I got away with it as I was only carrying an unmarked box of bits and bobs  so they didn’t know what I was up to!

Then the day came.  Myself and Andy filmed the proceedings.  I’d pictured a really big hollywood confetti shot as being a pivotal moment in the wedding day edit.   When the confetti shot set up by the photographer came it just didn’t live up to my expectations.  The wind blew the confetti sideways instead of the beautiful cascade of paper petals i’d pictured.  I needed that shot.

One of several white lies had to be told to the couple at that point to conceal the secret of the Wedding Day Edit, I’m afraid.  I think I told them the tape had run out when they did that confetti shot and we needed to do another. “Oh don’t worry about it” said the bride, but she didn’t know how much I wanted that shot and she didn’t know how great it was going to look on a big screen that night.  Off Andy went to a bridal shop and came back with the confetti.  We got the big hollywood confetti shot.

After the speeches Andy and I said our goodbyes to the newlyweds, wished them a happy honeymoon, they thanked us and off we toddled home.

We didn’t go home.  We went underground and there in the basemant we sat and created the Wedding day Edit.  Stress.  About two days editing in 2 hours.

We knew we had to really make a big impression with this and really tug at those heart strings and a point came where we knew we’d nailed it, massive relief.

The DJ kindly announced it and turned off the music briefly.  The bride, the groom and all their guests gathered round and watched.  Three and a half minutes of tears, laughter and joy followed by applause.  A fabulous moment.
